Selena Gomez seems to be throwing subtle yet scathing jabs at her ex, Justin Bieber, through her newly released album I Said I Love You First. According to Page Six, the pop star’s track “How Does It Feel To Be Forgotten" appears to be aimed at Bieber. The lyrics read, “You’re so embarrassing / Go cry when no one’s watchin’ / I can’t imagine it / How does it feel to be forgotten?"
Gomez, 32, also sings, “‘Cause you walked in, big-a*s grin / Talkin’ like we’re friends, honey, what were you thinkin’? / He loves me, I love him / Look at you, just look at you now." Fans quickly linked these lyrics to her 2020 hit “Look at Her Now," which was widely believed to be about her tumultuous relationship with Bieber.

Fans also suspect that the track “Don’t Wanna Cry" addresses her heartbreak over Bieber’s quick marriage to Hailey Bieber in 2018. Gomez sings, “Left the door wide open for the whole wide world to see you / Then you kiss her right in front of me like I’m not even there / I should cause a scene for s–t you’ve done to me."
Gomez and Bieber’s rollercoaster romance began in 2010 and had several ups and downs before ending in 2018. Their on-again, off-again relationship was marred by trust issues, and just months after their final split, Bieber married Hailey.
Another track, “Younger and Hotter Than Me," hints at a time when Gomez was young and naive in love. She sings, “Begging for more / X on my hand drawn in Sharpie / Now I use my own ID." According to Genius.com, the “X" is a reference to underage club stamps, a nod to her younger days dating Bieber.
Although Gomez hasn’t confirmed the songs are about Bieber, fans are piecing the clues together. In a recent interview for Spotify, Gomez clarified, “The whole album isn’t just about my life," leaving fans to wonder how much of her past with Bieber inspired her raw and emotional lyrics.
