#Champs2025: Boys’ Class 1 400m hurdles promises fireworks
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Friday’s final of the Class One boys’ 400m hurdles at the 115th staging of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships promises fireworks between two athletes who failed to medal in the event last year.
It will be the first meeting of the season between Herbert Morrison’s Trevoy Smith who ran 50.97 seconds to lead the qualifying rounds on Tuesday and Jamaica College’s Princewell Martin who also won his heat in 52.24 seconds.
Very little separates the two, Smith ran 50.82 seconds to break the County of Cornwall Athletics Association Western Championships record while Martin ran 50.84 seconds to win the Under-20 boys final at Carifta Trials, both events held at GC Foster.
Smith finished fourth last year while Martin was ninth.
Kishawn Hoffman will be the only runner from Excelsior High in the final after defending champion Daniel Wright finished 19th overall and failed to advance.
Francisco Williams of St Georges College, Robert Miller of Calabar High and Taj-Oneil Gordon of Kingston College are also expected to challenge for medals.
