We are frequently on two other sites besides this one where you can talk, tell stories, ask questions etc.
We've never "dated" anyone from any of the sites.
Why? Because we don't think of them as dating or hook up sites.

Plenty of Fish has been around a long time and I've known many women who had profiles on POF. The most common complaint I heard was that they get messages from men who are bitter that women have failed to worship and adore him. None of them want a "6 foot guy with a 6 pack, 6 inch D and a 6 figure income," but would give any guy like that a fair chance. Hell, I probably would, but that's a different site.

I gotta agree with @Milo Cronos. If my girlfriend dumped me today, everywhere I'd look would be physical. First and foremost, I'd ask out my work crush (hell, she could move in tomorrow as far as I'm concerned). Then I'd get in touch with a couple old friends who could have been more than friends. There's a girl in a circle of acquaintances I see every now and then who always seems to be single; I'd totally ask her out, she's a cutie. I'd ask out other women I work with who show interest in me, there's even a married coworker I'm pretty sure would want to have some fun with me on the side. There's always girls flirting with me and my band mates at shows, so I'd start picking up some solo gigs or maybe join a second band. And if all that fails, you know where I always see girls who look like my type? The craft store.
