City Power officials address community on their electricity concerns
Randburg residents, tired of ongoing electricity issues, demanded accountability from City Power as frustrations grow over poor communication, extended blackouts, and lack of feedback.

A group of frustrated Randburg residents took their concerns to the City Power offices in Randburg, hoping to find solutions after some had been without electricity for over a week.
Resident Hein Pretorius voiced his frustration, stating: “I think if we want to see any real change, we should mobilise. Property values will continue to decrease, and the city will decline, unless we come together and become the difference we want to see.”

After waiting for some time without assistance, team leader from City Power Rudzani Netshisalulu stepped in to ensure that the relevant officials addressed the community members. Four residents were then invited to a conference room, where they met with City Power representatives, including stakeholder Thabiso Seretse, manager of customer service Beauty Mbangula, planned maintenance manager Simphiwe Makhuphula, and Randburg Service Delivery Centre (SDC) general manager Tshililo Nefale.

The officials apologised for the long wait and gave residents the platform to voice their concerns. Among the key issues raised were power outages lasting over two weeks in some areas, as well as a lack of communication and feedback from City Power.
Resident Jeff Levin provided a timeline for the electricity issues they had been experiencing. In response, Nefale explained that budget cuts, load-shedding, and poor infrastructure were the main causes of the prolonged outages. However, she assured residents that a solution had been developed, already approved, and would be implemented before winter.
While residents appreciated the engagement, many left hoping that City Power would follow through with its commitments to improve service delivery and restore electricity to affected areas promptly.
