After six consecutive generations with very little change in the design of its pro iPhone models (and three in a row with essentially zero Changes other than the buttons), Apple should finally make things happen this fall with the launch of the iPhone 17 handsets. But the bad news, according to a new report, is that the planned overhaul will be much less radical than expected.
In the latest episode of his power on the newsletter, Bloomberg Leaker, Mark Gurman, said that if the old-fashioned combinations will be a departure from the same old look, representing the largest overhaul of the line since 2020, the iPhone 17 pro “will be much more like the 16 pro”.
When seen from the front, says Gurman, the iPhone 17 Pro will roughly resemble its predecessor, with notable modifications limited to the back of the device, in particular the camera module. The 17 Pro should always include three back-oriented camera lenses in a triangular configuration “on the left, a right”, but these will be housed in a wider module which extends over almost the width of the chassis.
To be clear, it is not a new rumor. In fact, this precise rumor was covered on this site in mid-February, then later this month. The concept of wide module is not a certainty (sources could be false, and with five months before the launch, it is almost possible that Apple can still change their mind), but it is the current consensus among experts and should be considered the most plausible result at this stage.
What is more interesting in Gurman's article is what he tells us about the other parts of the iphones in the series 17. Namely, that the previous relationships were bad, and they remain the same. Rendering showing a two-color design are “not a precise representation of what will happen,” he insists; The module will be the same color as the rest of the phone. And if the 17 pro resembles the 16 pro by the front, this implies that Apple does not intend to make changes to the size or the position of the dynamic island, and certainly does not plan to remove the cut completely in favor of a sub-screen sensor table.
It may seem disappointing, but veterans who look at apples will not be surprised. Abandonment, company products are often discussed by leaks and rheumongers such as large and radical reimagins, but as the launch approaches and reality bites, experts become more prudent and indicates that major changes have been struck in the following year when the process will be repeated. It seems that this year will not be different.
