6 expected in court after kidnapping in Carletonville

Men who originally hail from the East Rand were arrested in the Carletonville area, and will appear in the Oberholzer Magistrate’s Court.

Six suspects arrested in connection with a kidnapping in Carletonville will appear in the Oberholzer Magistrate’s Court tomorrow after swift work by local detectives led to their capture over the weekend.

The kidnapping occurred on September 18 when a 35-year-old resident visited his girlfriend in Khutsong Extension 5. Later, the girlfriend received a message that he had been kidnapped, with the abductors demanding R45 000 for his release.

They warned her not to involve the police.

Despite the threat, she reported the incident to the police the next morning. Captain Jacques Nagel and other Carletonville detectives immediately launched a search for the missing man.

Not only was the resident found unharmed, but the detectives also arrested six men in connection with the crime. The suspects, all South African nationals from the East Rand, were apprehended in the Carletonville area.
