We had the earlier ford/Fordson Supermajor.
At least it was a 4 cylinder :)

The first Fordson engine we had was on the power plant (wet sleeve) , rated at 40 hp.
The tractor one rated at 55 ,
similarly in the powered barge later .

The last I had , looked the same basically , and same size , was in a fishing boat , rated at 84 hp.

A Spanish outfit later produced the earlier wet sleeve model , I think still only 40hp ,
      under the name Ebro.

Pretty awful candy actually and they always had a little paper stuck to them. Btw, do they still make Dots or good and plenty? Haven’t seen those in years either.

I was recently looking at a site called something like “oldtimecandy” and saw several versions of Dots there, including green & red ones for Christmas! I thought of Richief because they also sold Curly Wurlies, and I couldn’t believe they also sold the candy “cigarettes” that were all the rage back in the day!

The “Good & Fruity” mention reminded me of “Fruity Rolls” (or something like that) which were Tootsie Rolls but in fruit flavors instead of chocolate. One of their (assorted) flavors was vanilla, and I remember some of my siblings arguing that vanilla is not a fruit while others said the vanilla bean is the “fruit” of that plant. Such complicated childhoods we had!

Turns out vanilla is a fruit which I didn’t know. Too bad the internet wasn’t around to settle that argument back then but I did like those candies.

When I just pulled up the picture to post, the site I got it from sells the Fruit Rolls 30 lbs. for $100. Made me wonder how long it would take to eat 30 lbs!

Dime sodas..? Hell, I remember when a straight fuck at the Mustang Ranch was $10. ;)

I don’t recall “dime sodas” but remember super-cheap “barrel drinks” in odd colors like blue... they were basically colored sugar-water! I also remember being sent to the soda counter in the local candy shop for “cola syrup” when someone had an upset stomach. Grandma would give me a dollar bill for the syrup and tell me to put it in one pocket, give me a dime in case I needed to use a pay phone, and give me two tissues (one to blow your nose and a clean one to wrap the dirty tissue in), but warned me NOT to put the tissues in the same pocket as the dollar, lest I pull out a tissue and the dollar fall out! God bless Grandma!

I never saw those, but there was a fruit stand & market at our school bus stop. Sodas were $.9 + 2 for the bottle deposit.
Reese cups were a nickel. So were a lb. of bananas !!

    Remember all so far. Also,
gas for 10 cents a gallon at a station in Chelsea.
movies for 9 cents (Gem in East Boston).
    "meat store",
    "fish store",
"chicken store" where you picked your chicken and it was smashed into a pole (to kill it).
putting peanuts in a machine and watching as peanut-butter was made,
watching the pastas being made to order,
the first TV (of course B/W) it was in Sal Bartolas (bar in East Boston about which stories as good as THE GODFATHER could be written.
the cops would kick your ass a bit and send you home rather than lock you up for minor infractions.
zip-guns and have often wondered why we didn't kill ourselves with them!
snap jacks from Thom McCans (shoes),
    spades (shoes),
    pegged pants (before the song),
    "4 on the floor",
    standard shift on steering well,
when a second window-washer was extra,
    rumble seats
cold water flats (bathed in a large portable bath or bucket)
5 floor walk-ups (lived in one 7 floor walk up)
    etc.

My sister-in-law had one of these back in the mid-70's.

Hmmm...I wonder if they purposely put them vertical so people wouldn't fuck up if they were looking for music. :D

Yeah, the middle of the front bench was considered the suicide spot as you had nothing to grab to prevent you from going through the front window.

But you'd likely be safer in a head on , than the driver , not risking being impaled , through the chest , on the steering column.
In the other hand , you had the rearview mirror stalk to scalp you , if you were unlucky :)

She was a risky business going at any high speed in those days.

My brothers were travelling in the US in the 50s & Edward was in the front middle when they got into an accident. He went through the window & was hospitalised when they were T-boned by a guy going through a red light. He would never sit in that position for the rest of his life.
He was the "first" to die of my siblings @ 48.

Sadly , quite a few of us have similar memories.
We lost 5 in one accident just on Christmas , was about the worst..
(Brother in law and best mates family n friends)

As mentioned above , any speed , and nothing was safe , by comparison to today.
